Brotherly love! These two guys have quite the relationship. A very special bond. Although it wasn't always this good. They came from different homes and grew up with different bothers and sisters. When they first met they hit it off pretty well. The problems didn't start until they moved into the same house. We rescued Dually in the middle of this and just couldn't seem to find the balance with them. They never had any issues in the house, only outside. We wouldn't let them out together without being able to supervise them and even then we had to break them up a few times.
After quite a bit of time and constant effort, we were able to retrain them. What we realized was Boss took Dodgers approach as aggressive so he went into defense mode which then triggered Dodgers instinct to retaliate. Dually had become Dodger's “sidekick” and seemed to be the spark that set the whole thing in motion. It was tiring and very stressful to say the least but we never gave up.
We decided to rescue Miss Remi and didn't know how this would play out with the 3 boys. Little did we know what an amazingly calm, perfectly tempered dog Remi was. She was the perfect addition to the Crew. She keeps the boys in line and doesn't take anything from them.
Multiple dogs in your home can be a challenge but very rewarding if you have the patience to work with them and set boundaries. You have to learn to look for signs so that you can calm a situation down before it gets out of hand. I see so many times that people return rescues within a week or two of getting them because they didn't get along with an existing dog in there home. Most of the time, it is the existing dog that doesn't like the change and is the one that needs worked with more so than the rescue.
